Title

Jimi Hendrix hand-wrote these working lyrics for "Pass It On" (the original name of the song that evolved into "Straight Ahead") on Londonderry Hotel, London stationery in red felt tip pen. He has written corrections, crossed out some of the words and added words in some places. He most likely wrote the lyrics during his stay during March 9 - 19, 1970. The song was first performed as the 2nd set opener on May 30th, 1970 at the Berkeley Community Theatre in California and was also played at the June 13, 1970 Baltimore, Maryland concert. After the June 16th – 17th, 1970 Electric Lady Studio sessions, "Pass It On" gradually evolved into what became known as "Straight Ahead," which came out on Hendrix's 1971 "Cry of Love" album. "Straight Ahead" also appears on the 1997 "First Rays of the Rising Sun." You can listen to the original "Pass It On" on the 2003 CD "Jimi Hendrix Live At Berkeley" (second set). The stationery measures 8.25" x 11.5". With some very light yellowing due to natural aging, the lyrics are in overall excellent condition. Estimate: $150,000 - $175,000.
