The album was released in 1971 without a name, only symbols, has come to be known as “The Fourth Album”, “The Four Symbols” or “Zoso” but most commonly known as “Led Zeppelin IV.” The album was unnamed as a reaction to critics and disdain for the media, a move the band was counseled against. Each symbol on the cover represents a band member. The album was received as a huge commercial and critical success. It hit number one on the Billboard pop chart and has gone platinum 23 times.
